Because I have questions!

November brings us National Blog Posting Month, or NaBloPoMo.

NaBloPoMo November 2015

I plan to participate, but I really don’t feel much challenge in just writing on post every day. I’ve done that several months this year and know that I could do it another month with out much challenge. So, I’ve decided to add to the challenge that I will be posting a writing piece each day that isn’t just a ramble or rant. The goal is to write something that has a bit of meat to it. A completed poem, an essay or a short story. Some of these might be in response to a prompt or in response to something that I read. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I am hoping that this will help jump start my writing. Some one had better wake up my muse! He’s been rather sleepy as of late.

So, there might be days that I have 2 posts; one being for the challenge and one being my usual fare. Depends on how well my Muse behaves himself and how ranty I feel 😉

Poll Response: Abortion

Abortion continues to be a topic under hot debate and most likely will be for a long time to come. About 1.4 million abortions are performed each year. About 30% of women will have an abortion before they are 45. There is no medical procedure that I am aware of that has more laws wrapped up into it then abortion. More US state abortion restrictions were enacted between 2011 and 2013 (205 in total) than were adopted during the whole previous decade (189).   Read the rest of this entry

Poll Response: Your Animal

Poll: Your Animal

There isn’t much to say about the results of this poll. It stemmed from having been thinking about my own animal. I’m sure that it won’t surprise you if I told you that it was the pig. I have always associated people with animals. When I get to know a person, they become connected to an animal in my mind. I don’t know why that is. I am the Pig. My husband is the Monkey. My daughter is the Dragon. Yeah, I know dragons are not real, but there is no reality based creature that captures her the way that a dragon does. There is too much fire breathing involved…

Do you think of yourself or those around you as animals?

Do the animals people become associated with change anything?

Poll Response: Medical Marijuana

Deepak Cyril D’Souza, MBBS, MD, Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, and Mohini Ranganathan, MBBS, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine, stated the following in their June 2015 editorial titled “Medical Marijuana: Is the Cart Before the Horse?,” published inJournal of the American Medical Association:

“For most qualifying conditions, approval has relied on low-quality scientific evidence, anecdotal reports, individual testimonials, legislative initiatives, and public opinion. Imagine if other drugs were approved through a similar approach… For most of the conditions that qualify for medical marijuana use, the evidence fails to meet FDA standards…If the states’ initiative to legalize medical marijuana is merely a veiled step toward allowing access to recreational marijuana, then the medical community should be left out of the process, and instead marijuana should be decriminalized.

Conversely, if the goal is to make marijuana available for medical purposes, then it is unclear why the approval process should be different from that used for other medications. Evidence justifying marijuana use for various medical conditions will require the conduct of adequately powered, double-blind, randomized, placebo/active controlled clinical trials to test its short- and long-term efficacy and safety.”
