I’ve been trying something new. For Xmas, Monkey bought me a voice recorder. Since I commute 45 minutes to work, I have decided to try using this as time to do some writing by dictation. I’m not sure how this will go. The thing is that I often find my brain grabbing onto an idea while I am in the car and then forgetting it by the time I have a chance to write it down. This lets me capture those ideas as they are coming to me. The up side is that I can catch those ideas as they come. I can use the commute for writing. The thing is that I’m not sure that it will actually save me time. At some point I have to listen to these things and type them up. But the typing up can be the second draft rather then the first. So, that might be a time saver. We’ll see. The other down side is that will cut into the time that I listen to audio books since that is what I have been doing with this commute time. I dunno. Might be a good thing. Might be something I trash. I tried it once before, but I didn’t have a very good set up for it so that test run didn’t go well. I’ve been doing the recording this week and the typing will be happening next week. I’ll post more on this once I’ve done more work with it. Any of you guys try this approach to writing?
